It may be a while before Nissan transforms the two cars to fit its evolving lineup, but they will certainly have a place, and at the moment, the current Nissan GT-R R35 is about to reach the end of the production line after 16 years in production, and production continues for the model. 2025 with several special editions to mark the occasion, these include the Takumi and Skyline, which pay tribute to previous GT-R models.
What comes next is still under development, but Nissan says it will keep the GT-R available, even if it's not exactly the same, and potential updates include switching entirely to electric power, which would be a big change. However, other than the need to stop and charge, the electric GT-R will not represent a performance compromise.
While the company decides the direction it will take with the sports car dubbed “Godzilla,” it is working with Formula E racing cars to test potential scenarios. The upcoming new sports car will be based on a new platform, but it will not lose what makes the GT-R special, including bold design and, according to Nissan Senior Vice President Alfonso Albaisa, retaining the distinctive quad taillights, yet It may look a little different because the design is not complete yet.
Among the cars that will stay a little longer is also the Nissan Z. The current generation is only two years old, so it will take some time before major changes appear. The current powertrain will likely remain unchanged for the rest of this generation as it meets current emissions regulations.
The new Z car coming in the future could have a completely new design, or it could simply be an upgraded version of the current design. What can be certain is that it will maintain the Z's long history of being a performance sports car.
