There is a possibility of producing a new Lexus that may be based on the same mechanics as the Toyota GR Corolla, a small car with sporty performance that can be described as a rally car licensed for public streets.
It would be frustrating if Toyota didn't put its powerful 1,6-liter turbocharged engine in more cars besides the Toyota GR Yaris, the Toyota GR Corolla, and it looks like the third model that will get this turbocharged engine may replace the Toyota badge with the logo of Lexus, its more luxurious sister
The Lexus LBX Morizo RR concept was unveiled in January at the Tokyo Motor Show, photos of which are attached in this news, and has a great chance of reaching the stage of commercial production.
New Lexus mini crossover with compact but powerful Toyota G16E-GTS engine confirmed for sale in select markets
Drive spoke with Lexus Australia CEO John Pappas who said the LBX Morizo RR concept is very likely to enter production, however, he added that the strong derivative of the LBX-based Yaris Cross has not yet received the green light.
While the Yaris Cross produced the GR Sport version they all appear without any extra effort but if the Lexus LBX Morizo RR concept was made with a commercial production version based on a engine derived from the Toyota GR Corolla with 300 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque these are the figures for the performance of the Morizo version of the GR Corolla that comes in the American marketAnd exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission, but a new Lexus is likely to adopt the production version of the LBX concept on an 8-speed automatic transmission borrowed from the Toyota GR Yaris 2024
Australian magazine Drive reports that Toyota's president, Akio Toyoda, has already heard him say that the LBX Morizo RR will go on sale later in 2024, and the former president and CEO of the company is known as "Morrizo" when he sits behind the wheel, and if approved, it will be more than twice that of the regular Lexus LBX, which is content with 134 horsepower from its 1,5-liter hybrid engine.
This is the first information we have available about a new Lexus that may be manufactured based on the same mechanics as the Toyota GR Corolla.
