Samsung stops monthly security updates for the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 phones

Samsung has stopped monthly security updates for the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 phones. Instead, these phones will receive security updates every 3 months, before the company stops all updates at a later time. Samsung says that security updates for the Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, S20 Ultra, and S20 FE, in addition to the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, will be released on a quarterly basis instead of monthly. Samsung's decision was expected, as these versions were launched in 2020, and support for the operating system in them had ended, and the last update that these devices received was the One UI 5.1 update based on Android 13, and these devices will not receive any other updates, including the One UI 6 update based on Android 14. This is a normal part of the product life cycle and according to the standards set by Samsung when launching these devices, the rate of release of updates decreases until major system updates stop first, followed by security updates. Although these phones will be able to operate normally, they will become vulnerable to threats and malware with the decline in the frequency of security updates and their absence, and their support for new versions of applications will decline. It is worth noting that the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are the last two versions of the famous Note series, before Samsung discontinued it and included it in the S series through the Ultra version that contains the S Pen. Recently, Samsung has improved the update policy for its mobile devices and extends them to longer years compared to older devices.
